Umbrella Studio – More Photos

Body Parts Connection

Our second design project is to be in a group of 3. Then each person will be allocated with a body part. As a group, we have to construct something that connects these three body parts through any representation we want. Our group constructed a structure that connects nose, spine and little toe together. Our idea was to explore the change in distance and position between the nose and toe with regards to the spine in relation to growth and ageing. More photos will be added later.

Umbrella Studio Ended

That’s what my friend Adrian and I did this week for the Umbrella Studio. Due to the time constrain, we couldn’t solve several problem, because it will require a big make over. On Monday, I will be taking better quality photos as a record for our portfolio.

Busy Day

I don’t have time to write a detailed full blog entry today as I woke up at 6 today and will be the same for tomorrow. We presented our idea of the bubble cloud umbrella to the tutor group and received quite a lot of attention. On the ride to city, Eva also gave me comments on our design which is very constructive, however we don’t have enough time to review our design again. So me and Adrian have put together the umbrella together. The final result is not exactly what we wished for, I will see if I can fix that tomorrow morning.

Besides that, we had our media class today. Started off with an hour lecture and during the lecture, I can see a whole bunch of people ‘fishing’. Probably everyone is tired from the studio class in the morning. The workshop afterward was fun though. We did blind drawing, pictionary and paper cut out. I will try to take some pictures tomorrow morning.

Umbrella in progress

Just a sneak photo of our ( me & Adrian) umbrella. It’s going to be constructed by lots of paper stripe spheres. I will be explaining the concepts behind this design later on.

I have also taken photos of our studio, a really nice place to stay in. On level 3, the computers are all imacs. This place is about the size of an underground carpark, enough for 200 people to work on their project.

Umbrella Studio

Started off meeting with out tutor, Padma. Apparently she taught in Unitec before and this is her first year of being a tutor in UoA. Hopefully she will give alot of constructive comments to guide us through our projects.

I am in working in pair with Adrian and within 10 minutes, we already got our idea sorted. And now its just about making it and testing it. I will reveal more about our idea of the paper umbrella tomorrow with photos.

My Sennheiser CX 500 White headphone had finally arrived. Although it got delivered to the wrong address but I did managed to get it back without using violence. So yea, the headphone is really decent and I got it off a reasonable price with just $99. (And it’s white) Will be testing with it on the bus tomorrow.

Just found out our lecture tomorrow got moved to the engineering building. Also the resources on Cecil (our course resource site) is unexpectedly difficult. Hope it’s not gonna be to intense tomorrow.

PS. Getting a ride is MUCH faster than bus. About half an hour earlier I think. I got to the campus at 7:40 this morning. Great if i have morning classes.=]

First Day

Today, I met Adrian at the bus stop and travelled together to our 9:30 archi welcoming thing on L3 exhibition space. We caught the 7:50 bus so we got there early at around 9 o’clock. I was planned to buy the stationary with Adrian and NP before the welcoming starts. However NP missed the bus and didn’t get to uni until 9:30. So we decided to get it at lunch instead. After the welcoming which basically had nothing to do with us, we headed back down to our L2 studio.

Kathy explained briefly about the Umbrella Studio which all years will work on it this week. We are using plain white paper to make umbrella and will be presenting it on Friday. On Friday, we will display over 400 of those suspended white umbrellas outside the courtyard which sounds interesting to walk underneath them. We got split into different tutor groups and luckily, I am in the same group as Adrian and few other Asian friends. Not sure if that’s a good thing though. Looking forward to meet our tutors tomorrow and start working on the umbrella.

During lunch break, I went with Adrian, NP, Jack and Joan to get our equipment which cost me 170 bucks. >.< After that I went to meet Nikki and Adrian went off to his korean friend. Me and Nikki went down to High st and Queen st to look at the shops. I wanted to get a smaller bag but couldn’t find any good ones. However, we saw a shop that’s on sale and I remember t-shirts are quite nice. I may check back again tomorrow with Chon. Also I will be getting a ride from Eva tomorrow morning at 7 am, so I better sleep early tonight. =]
